Jaguar's luxury SUV in plug-in hybrid form, combining a 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo petrol with a rear-mounted electric motor for a combined 404 hp and circa 33 miles of electric range. Introduced with the 2021 facelift, the P400e shares its aluminium-intensive platform with the rest of the F-Pace lineup. The powertrain is refined and quick, but adds PHEV-specific complexity on top of known JLR electronic reliability concerns.· more· less

Strong combined output (404 hp) Refined driving experience
PHEV complexity adds failure points High dealer labour rates
Buy if: You want a powerful, refined PHEV SUV and can confirm all recalls are completed and budget for Jaguar-level maintenance costs.
Avoid if: You rarely charge the battery (negates the PHEV benefit) or cannot budget for potentially expensive hybrid system repairs out of warranty.

Common Problems
Multiple recalls and PHEV-specific risks demand thorough pre-purchase checks
The F-Pace P400e uses the Ingenium 2.0 petrol engine, which avoids the worst of the timing chain problems associated with the diesel variant. However, the PHEV-specific components (high-voltage heater, charging system, battery management) add failure points not present in the conventional F-Pace. Three safety recalls addressing fire risks (coolant leak, oil filter housing, coolant pump belt) must be verified as completed before purchase. When these are addressed and the car is properly maintained, the powertrain is generally robust. Budget for Jaguar-level parts and labour costs, and strongly consider extended warranty coverage.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Coolant leak onto turbocharger heatshield causing fire risk (H433) — P400e PHEV specific Critical - verify completed
Oil filter housing crack causing oil leak and fire risk (H506) — 2021-2024 F-Pace all engines Critical - verify completed
Coolant pump drive belt failure causing overheating and fire risk (N785) — P400e PHEV Critical - verify completed
Powertrain control module (PCM) software fault — engine may not function properly Verify completed
Front seatbelt pre-tensioner tube manufacturing defect Verify completed
Driver airbag inflator propellant deterioration Verify completed
The Jaguar F-Pace P400e has several safety-critical recalls, including three addressing fire risks specific to or including the PHEV variant. Contact Jaguar with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed before purchasing. Do not proceed with purchase until all fire-risk recalls (H433, H506, N785) are confirmed completed.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / unlimited km) May still apply on 2023+ models
High-voltage battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km
Rust perforation warranty (6 years) Still active on all P400e models
Extended warranty availability Available through Jaguar dealers
Early 2021-2022 P400e models are now outside their original 3-year factory warranty. The high-voltage battery retains an 8-year / 160,000 km warranty covering capacity loss and system faults. Jaguar extended warranty is available but typically excludes oil leaks and certain wear items. Review exclusions carefully before purchasing coverage.
