The X250 XF brought Jaguar into the modern era of executive saloons, replacing the ageing S-Type with a sleek, aluminium-bodied design. The 3.0 V6 diesel (code 306DT) replaced the troublesome 2.7 in 2009 and is widely considered the best all-round engine for the X250. It offers strong torque, reasonable fuel economy, and a refined character that suits the car well. Available in 240 hp and 275 hp (S) forms, both share the same fundamental architecture.· more· less

Buy if: You want a comfortable V6 diesel executive saloon, do regular motorway driving, and can find one with complete service history and no bottom-end noise.

Common Problems
Generally reliable V6 diesel, but needs informed ownership
The 3.0 V6 diesel is a significant improvement over the earlier 2.7 and is widely considered the best engine choice for the X250 XF. Many examples have exceeded 200,000 km without major issues. The crankshaft failure risk, while rare, is the most serious concern and cannot be predicted or easily prevented. The more common issues (inlet manifolds, throttle body, turbo actuators) are well-documented and manageable with specialist knowledge. Regular motorway driving and proper oil maintenance significantly reduce the DPF-related risks.
