Common Problems
Reliable engine, but the cooling system demands proactive attention
The AJ126 supercharged V6 is a proven and generally robust engine that can comfortably exceed 150,000 km with proper maintenance. However, the plastic coolant crossover pipes are widely considered a design flaw and will almost certainly need replacement during ownership. Water pump failures and supercharger coupler wear are also well-documented. The timing chain is less prone to failure than on the related AJ133 V8 but should be monitored, especially on cars where oil changes have been stretched. The ZF 8HP transmission is reliable. The main financial risk is not the engine itself but the labour costs required to access components buried under the supercharger.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Crankshaft pulley bolt fracture risk — V6/V8 engines (2019 models, recall H181) Critical - verify completed
High-pressure fuel pump bolt too long — 3.0L engine (2017 models, recall H039) Verify completed
Instrument cluster intermittent blank screen (2017-2018 models) Verify completed
Rear driveshaft too short on early automatic models (built before April 2016) Verify completed
Seat belt retractor early deactivation (2020-2021 models) Verify if applicable
Contact Jaguar with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The crankshaft pulley bolt recall (H181) for 2019 models is particularly critical as bolt fracture can cause catastrophic engine failure.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / unlimited km) Expired on most used examples
Rust perforation warranty (6 years) Check remaining coverage based on build date
Extended warranty availability Available through Jaguar dealers and third parties
All pre-2023 F-Pace 3.0 V6 models are outside their original 3-year factory warranty. Jaguar offers extended warranty programmes through dealers. Check exclusions carefully — coolant system components and supercharger wear items may not be covered. Third-party warranties are available but often exclude pre-existing known issues.
