Two ET7 owners reported sudden and complete loss of power while driving, with brakes failing and hazard warning flashers inoperable. NIO confirmed the root cause as failure of the low-voltage (12V) battery charging module (DC-DC converter). After the module fails, the vehicle can continue driving for approximately 10-15 minutes on remaining 12V battery charge before shutting down entirely. NIO released software update 1.0.1b to improve dashboard warnings, but the underlying hardware issue requires module replacement. NIO described the failure rate as a 'small probability', and no mass recall has been issued for ET7s specifically. Replacement of the DC-DC converter unit typically costs €800-1,500 for parts, with labor adding €200-500 depending on service location and availability.

The ET7 uses an air suspension system with continuously adjustable damping. As with all air suspension systems (Mercedes AIRMATIC, BMW air springs), the compressor and air springs are wear items that degrade over time. Compressor failures commonly present as the car sitting lower on one side or taking longer to level after loading. Air spring leaks typically develop at the rubber bellows after 4-6 years or 60,000-100,000 km. Due to NIO's limited European parts pipeline, wait times for suspension components can be significantly longer than for established brands. A single air strut replacement costs approximately €800-1,500, while a compressor replacement runs €600-1,200 including labor. Worst case involving multiple struts and compressor can reach €3,500.

NIO's NOMI-based infotainment system and instrument cluster can experience freezes, black screens, or slow performance, particularly during or after DC fast charging sessions. The central processor can slow down noticeably during charging. While NIO issued a major recall for 246,229 older-platform vehicles (ES8, ES6, EC6) over a similar black-screen issue in February 2026, the ET7 runs on the newer NT2 platform and was not included in that recall. Software updates (OTA) generally address these issues at no cost, but persistent hardware-level display failures (screen backlight, control board) can cost €300-500 for replacement. Most instances are resolved through a system restart.

NIO's European service infrastructure is thin and shrinking. As of mid-2026, only 59 battery swap stations operate across five countries, with the European team significantly downsized. Owners have reported waiting up to two months for basic components like parking sensors. NIO has shifted from direct sales to a distributor model and is seeking subtenants for its German showrooms. April 2026 saw only 45 vehicle registrations across ten European markets. While the vehicle itself may be mechanically sound, the inability to obtain parts promptly can extend downtime and increase costs (rental cars, alternative transport). This is not a traditional repair cost but represents a tangible financial risk unique to NIO ownership in Europe. Factor in €200-500 in potential mobility costs per repair event, plus the risk of higher labor rates if the repair requires multiple visits.

The ET7 uses the Aquila sensing suite with 33 sensors including an Innovusion Falcon LiDAR unit mounted on the roof, seven 8-megapixel cameras, and multiple radar units. Any windshield replacement requires camera recalibration (€300-600), and body repairs near sensor locations require full system recalibration. LiDAR unit damage or failure is particularly expensive due to the specialized Innovusion hardware. A windshield replacement including ADAS recalibration runs approximately €1,000-1,500 for the ET7 compared to €300-500 for a non-ADAS vehicle. This is relevant for stone chip damage, parking incidents, or minor collisions that affect sensor-equipped panels.

The 75 kWh battery offers 445 km WLTP range when new, but real-world range is closer to 300-350 km depending on conditions. Cold weather can reduce this to around 250 km. As the battery ages, even moderate degradation (10-15%) brings real-world range down to levels that may limit usability for longer trips. NIO's BaaS (Battery as a Service) model, where available, mitigates this through battery swaps, but BaaS availability in Europe is limited and NIO has confirmed it will not build new swap stations. The 8-year / 160,000 km battery warranty guarantees 70% capacity. If degradation stays above 70%, replacement is at the owner's expense. Individual cell replacements cost €1,000-1,500; full pack replacement would be far more expensive but is unlikely within normal ownership.
