The ET5 Touring is NIO's estate variant of the ET5 sedan, launched in 2023 for the European market. Built in China on NIO's NT2.0 platform, it pairs a 150 kW front induction motor with a 210 kW rear permanent magnet motor for a combined 360 kW and 700 Nm. The 75 kWh standard-range battery provides around 420-460 km WLTP range. NIO's battery-swap technology allows a full battery exchange in about three minutes, but the European swap-station network remains limited. Build quality and drivetrain reliability appear solid from early reports, but the car's biggest ownership risk is NIO's uncertain European support infrastructure.· more· less

Rapid battery swap capability Strong warranty (5 years/150k km)

Buy if: You value the battery-swap concept, can accept an emerging brand, and have access to NIO service infrastructure near you.

Common Problems
Drivetrain appears solid, but brand infrastructure is the main risk
The NIO ET5 Touring's electric drivetrain shows no widespread reliability problems in its first years of production. Build quality is generally well-regarded, and the 5-year/150,000 km warranty provides good coverage. However, the biggest ownership risk is not mechanical: it is NIO's uncertain European support infrastructure. Parts delays of up to two months, a shrinking dealer presence, no new model updates until late 2027, and stalled battery-swap expansion all create practical ownership challenges that go beyond what a typical pre-purchase inspection can reveal. Prospective buyers should verify local service access, understand the BaaS implications for resale, and factor in steeper-than-average depreciation.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
High-voltage wiring harness protection (early ET5 sedan, Sept-Oct 2022 production) Verify if applicable
Instrument cluster/display blackout software fix (NT1.0 models, Feb 2026) Not applicable
Contact NIO directly with the VIN to verify all applicable recalls and service actions have been completed. The ET5 Touring (from 2023) runs on the NT2.0 platform and should not be affected by the NT1.0 display recall, but confirm with NIO. Check for any region-specific service campaigns that may apply to European-delivered vehicles.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (5 years / 150,000 km) Most 2023-2024 cars still within warranty
Battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers battery degradation below 70% capacity
Roadside assistance (5 years) Towing and mobility costs covered
Extended warranty Check with NIO for availability in your market
NIO offers a strong 5-year/150,000 km factory warranty, which is generous compared to most European competitors. Most 2023-2024 ET5 Touring models are still within this coverage. The battery is separately warranted for 8 years/160,000 km with a 70% capacity guarantee. However, warranty service depends on NIO's European infrastructure, which is currently limited. Verify with NIO that warranty coverage transfers to second owners and what service options exist in your country.
