Common Problems
Robust drivetrain, but European infrastructure is the real risk
The NIO ET5's electric drivetrain is well-engineered with no widespread motor or battery failures reported. The 100 kWh NMC battery benefits from NIO's swap system, which theoretically eliminates degradation concerns for BaaS subscribers. The real ownership risk is NIO's limited European service infrastructure: only 12 service points across 6 countries, documented parts delays of up to 2 months, no new swap stations being built, and no model updates planned until late 2027. Software maturity is still progressing, with major OTA updates arriving infrequently. Buyers should factor in that any repair requiring NIO-specific parts may involve extended downtime.
