Stellantis's compact PHEV SUV pairs a 1.3-litre turbo petrol with a rear-mounted electric motor for through-the-road all-wheel drive. Sold in large numbers across Europe thanks to generous tax incentives, the Compass 4xe offers about 40-50 km of real-world electric range and decent off-road capability for its class. Build quality and infotainment refinement lag behind European and Korean competitors in this segment.· more· less

Common Problems
PHEV complexity amplifies Jeep's existing electrical weaknesses
The Compass 4xe layers plug-in hybrid components (on-board charger, IDCM, high-voltage battery, power inverter, three coolant pumps, rear electric motor) on top of a platform that already had documented electrical issues in its conventional variants. Charging faults, 12V battery drain, and intermittent hybrid system warnings are reported by a substantial share of owners. The 1.3 GSE engine itself is reasonably durable when oil changes are kept short, but the MultiAir system demands attentive maintenance. Service history from an authorized Jeep dealer is essential, as most independent garages lack the diagnostic equipment for the high-voltage system. Cars still within the 2-year factory warranty or with remaining HV battery warranty coverage are significantly less risky purchases.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
IDCM electrical cable torque defect (recall 74B, built Nov 2021 - May 2024) Critical - verify completed
HV battery water ingress / fire risk (built Nov 2022 - Mar 2023) Critical - verify completed
Brake pedal arm disengagement (recall B7B, built Jul 2023 - Sep 2024) Critical - verify completed
Side airbag curtain not connected (2020-2021 production) Verify completed
Instrument panel cluster lighting software (2022-2023) Verify completed
The Compass 4xe has multiple safety-critical recalls. Contact a Jeep dealer with the VIN to verify all have been completed. The IDCM cable torque recall (74B) and HV battery water ingress recall are particularly important, as both can cause sudden vehicle shutdown or fire risk. Never purchase a 4xe with outstanding recalls.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on most used cars
High-voltage battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km (70% capacity guarantee)
Extended warranty availability Available through Mopar Vehicle Protection
Most used Compass 4xe models are outside their original 2-year factory warranty. The high-voltage battery warranty remains valid for 8 years from first registration. Given the frequency of hybrid system and charging faults, extended warranty coverage through Mopar is strongly recommended for any out-of-warranty purchase. Verify exact warranty expiry dates with Jeep using the VIN.
