The MP-generation Compass is Jeep's compact SUV for Europe, built at Stellantis's Melfi plant in Italy and sharing its 1.6 MultiJet diesel with the Fiat Tipo and Jeep Renegade. The 1.6 diesel is FWD-only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It received a facelift in 2021 with updated UConnect 5 infotainment and a power increase from 120 to 130 hp. Replaced by the all-new STLA Medium-based Compass in 2025.· more· less

Common Problems
Mechanically decent diesel, let down by electronics and emissions systems
The 1.6 MultiJet engine itself is a proven Fiat unit used across many Stellantis models, and the manual gearbox is reliable. The main ownership challenges are the emissions equipment (DPF, EGR, AdBlue on later cars), the UConnect infotainment system's poor track record, and various electrical gremlins. Cars driven regularly on motorways and properly serviced with the correct oil fare best. Pre-facelift 2017-2020 models have more electrical complaints and lack the updated UConnect 5 system.
