Compact crossover with a Fiat-derived 1.6 diesel that prioritizes fuel economy over outright pace. The MP generation arrived in 2017 with European-spec diesels built around the proven MultiJet II architecture also used in the Renegade and 500X. Manual-only configuration on this engine avoids the troublesome 9-speed automatic found on 2.0 diesel variants.· more· less

Common Problems
Decent shared-platform diesel, but FCA quality concerns remain
The 1.6 MultiJet engine itself is reasonably proven across Fiat, Alfa, and Jeep applications, and the manual gearbox avoids the troublesome 9-speed auto found on 2.0 diesel Compasses. However, the Compass MP shares Stellantis-era issues with EGR clogging, DPF problems on short trips, intake cracking, and an unreliable Uconnect system. A test drive on the highway plus a cold-start check are essential.
