The IDCM (Integrated Dual Charge Module) manages both the plug-in charging and the DC-DC conversion that keeps the 12V battery topped up. Even on cars with the recall completed, the IDCM can develop faults over time, triggering 'Service Charging System' warnings. A software reset sometimes resolves the issue temporarily, but hardware failure requires IDCM replacement at €800-1,500 for the module plus labour. In severe cases where the onboard charger section also fails, costs can reach €2,500. Many owners report intermittent charging failures that come and go, making diagnosis difficult. Always verify recall 74B has been completed.

The 4xe has three separate battery coolant pumps located under the vehicle, primarily below the passenger seat area. These pumps circulate coolant through the 11.4 kWh battery pack to maintain optimal temperature. Pump failures have been widely reported across the Jeep 4xe range, with owners finding empty coolant reservoirs and no warning light until the battery overheats. One UK-based Renegade 4xe owner reported a repair bill exceeding £900 (approximately €1,050) for a single pump replacement. If left unaddressed, the battery management system will restrict or disable electric driving to protect the cells. Pump part numbers include 68400753AD, 68400748AC, and 68400751AD. There are three pumps, so multiple failures over the car's life are possible.

A European recall (Rapex 25/2023) covering Renegade models built between November 2022 and March 2023 identified a production error in the electric battery that allowed water penetration. This could compromise battery function, cause overheating, and in extreme cases lead to fire. Approximately 7,243 vehicles worldwide were affected (including Compass models). If water has entered the cells, the battery pack may need partial or complete replacement. HV battery replacement costs for the Renegade 4xe are estimated between €5,000 and €8,000 out of warranty, though the 8-year battery warranty should cover manufacturing defects. This recall must be verified as completed on any 2022-2023 model. The broader fire risk recalls affecting Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe models (320,000+ vehicles) use a different, larger battery pack and do not directly apply to the Renegade 4xe.

The Uconnect 4/4C 7-inch touchscreen in the Renegade is prone to delamination, where the gel-based layer between the LCD and digitizer degrades from heat exposure (interior temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius). Symptoms include ghost touches, unresponsive areas, white stripes, bubbling, and complete blackout. This issue affects the majority of 2018-2023 Renegade models to some degree. Aftermarket replacement screens cost €150-300 and can be fitted at home in under an hour. Dealer replacement of the full APIM module runs €600-1,000. Replacing with another OEM screen risks the same failure, so many owners opt for upgraded aftermarket units. Software freezes can sometimes be resolved with a hard reset (hold Seek Up + Audio Power for 5 seconds).

The 4xe has a specific issue where leaving the Level 1 or Level 2 charger plugged in after the HV battery reaches 100% causes the charging system to repeatedly wake and check status, drawing power from the 12V battery without the DC-DC converter replenishing it. This can flatten the 12V battery overnight. Additionally, various PHEV modules (telematics, battery management) maintain a background parasitic draw of 40-75 mA that can kill the battery within 7-10 days if the car sits unused. AGM battery replacement costs €200-350, and the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) may also need replacement at €100-150. A battery tender is essential for cars not driven daily. Some early cars were fitted with inadequate EFB batteries instead of AGM units.

The 1.3 GSE T4 engine uses Fiat's MultiAir III electrohydraulic variable valve lift system. The PCV valve is integrated into the valve cover with no separate serviceable component. Over time, the PCV diaphragm can rupture, causing oil to be drawn into the intake, increased oil consumption, and a hissing sound from the engine. Valve cover replacement with integrated PCV costs €300-600 including labour. In severe cases, the MultiAir solenoids or hydraulic system can fail, requiring cylinder head work at €2,000-2,500. Using the correct oil specification (0W-30 or 5W-40) and changing oil every 15,000 km or annually is critical. The Renegade 4xe's 11.4 kWh battery (approximately 9 kWh usable) provides a modest electric range to begin with. Real-world testing shows 25-35 km when new, compared to the WLTP claim of around 50 km. Winter range drops significantly further. Over time, battery degradation reduces this further. Owners of 3-4 year old cars report electric-only range of 15-20 km in mild weather. While the HV battery has an 8-year warranty covering capacity below 70%, the gradual reduction from perhaps 90% to 75% capacity is noticeable and not warranty-claimable. This is not a mechanical failure but a functional loss that affects the car's value proposition. Keeping the charge level between 20% and 80% for daily use and avoiding extreme temperatures helps slow degradation.
