The Emeya R is Lotus's flagship electric GT, producing 905 hp from dual permanent magnet synchronous motors on the Geely SEA-S platform. It undercuts the Porsche Taycan Turbo S on price while matching it on performance. Build quality from the Wuhan factory has been generally well-received, though the thin European dealer network remains a practical ownership concern.· more· less

Exceptional performance for the price Strong 5-year / 150,000 km warranty
Very thin European dealer network Complex electronics, limited track record
Buy if: You want hyper-GT performance with a comprehensive warranty and can live with a small dealer network during the ownership period.
Avoid if: You need convenient local servicing or prefer a manufacturer with decades of EV reliability data behind them.

Common Problems
New platform with limited long-term data, but strong warranty
The Lotus Emeya R is too new for definitive reliability conclusions. The SEA-S platform is shared with the Eletre, which has a roughly one-year head start and has revealed 12V supercapacitor failures, software instability, and a motor batch defect as the primary concerns. The 5-year / 150,000 km warranty and 8-year / 200,000 km battery warranty provide meaningful protection for new buyers. Used buyers approaching the warranty boundary should be cautious, particularly given the limited Lotus dealer network in Europe. Lotus is expanding its service infrastructure, but currently has around 70 locations across the continent.
