Ferrari's last naturally aspirated front-engine V12 grand tourer before the 12Cilindri successor. The 789 hp F140 GA engine revs to 8,900 rpm and remains one of the most celebrated powertrains in modern automotive history. Production ran from 2017 to 2024, with the GTS convertible and limited-run Competizione joining the range later. The 812 occupies a unique position as a daily-usable supercar with genuine long-distance ability and a 210-litre boot.· more· less

Common Problems
Robust V12 powertrain, but complex electronics demand attention
The F140 GA V12 engine is the strongest part of the 812's reliability picture. No widespread catastrophic engine failures have been reported, and examples exceeding 100,000 km exist. The main ownership concerns are electronic and ancillary: the battery's unfortunate placement above the exhaust manifold creates a cascade of electrical quirks when voltage drops, the DCT gearbox has known sensor and seal weak points inherited from the 458's architecture, and the MagneRide dampers will eventually need attention. The 7-year free maintenance programme significantly reduces fixed costs for the first owner, but second or third buyers should budget for annual servicing at €1,800-3,000 once that expires.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Rear window bonding defect (2018-2020 production) - window could detach at speed Critical - verify completed
Brake fluid reservoir cap venting issue (2018-2021) - could cause partial or total brake loss Critical - verify completed
Stop/Start system emissions fault, Campaign 76 (2017-2021 production) Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator (2017-2018 models) Verify completed
Contact Ferrari with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The rear window bonding and brake fluid reservoir cap recalls are safety-critical and must be confirmed before purchase.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / unlimited km) Expired on most used 812s (earliest cars from 2017)
7-year free maintenance programme Covers scheduled servicing, parts, oil, brake fluid. Transfers with the car.
New Power extended warranty Available up to 12th year. Engine, gearbox, some electrical. Approx. €6,000-9,000/year.
Most 2017-2020 812 Superfasts are outside their 3-year factory warranty. The 7-year maintenance programme may still apply to 2019+ cars and significantly reduces scheduled servicing costs. New Power extended warranty is available through Ferrari dealers but excludes oil leaks, meaning MagneRide damper failures are not covered.
