The track-focused pinnacle of the 488 range, producing 720 hp from a revised F154 CD twin-turbo V8 with titanium con-rods, Inconel exhaust manifolds, and a larger intercooler. Around 3,500 coupes were built between 2018 and 2020 before the F8 Tributo succeeded the 488 line. The Pista shares the 488 GTB's fundamentals but runs harder components and attracts more track use, which influences wear patterns on the DCT, brakes, and suspension.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable for a supercar, but repair labor costs are significant
The 488 Pista benefits from the well-proven F154 twin-turbo V8, which has demonstrated reliability across thousands of 488s worldwide. The improved gearbox cooling over the 458 era reduces DCT sensor failures. The main cost drivers are the mid-engine layout (transaxle removal for any gearbox work) and the magnetorheological dampers that will eventually need attention. The Pista's track-focused character means many examples will have been driven harder than standard 488 GTBs, making service history and pre-purchase inspection particularly important. Turbo failures remain uncommon on stock, well-maintained cars.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Fuel vapor separator cracking causing potential fuel leak and fire risk (2019 models, NHTSA 19V-090) Critical - verify completed
Brake fluid reservoir cap ventilation defect causing potential brake fluid leakage and loss of braking (2019-2020 models, NHTSA 22V-536) Critical - verify completed
Airbag ECU defective capacitor causing potential non-deployment in crash (2018 models, Campaign #70) Critical - verify completed
Carbon-ceramic brake disc wear software bug: warning light may fail to illuminate when discs are worn Verify completed
Takata airbag inflator replacement (2018-2020 models) Verify completed
Contact Ferrari with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The fuel vapor separator recall and brake fluid reservoir cap recall are both safety-critical as they affect fire risk and braking function respectively. The airbag ECU recall affects 2018 model year Pistas specifically.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / unlimited km) Expired on most 488 Pistas (2018-2020 production)
7-year maintenance plan Covers routine servicing for 7 years from original sale date, transferable to subsequent owners
New Power extended warranty Available through Ferrari dealers, approx. €5,500-6,500/year
Extended warranty eligibility Up to 16 years from original sale via Power16 program
Extended warranty exclusions Oil leaks (including shock absorbers), wear items, and cosmetic issues not covered
Most 488 Pistas are outside their original 3-year factory warranty. The 7-year complimentary maintenance plan covers routine servicing (oil, filters, inspections) through 2025-2027 depending on delivery date. The New Power extended warranty is available through Ferrari dealers for cars up to 16 years from original sale (Power16 program), subject to passing a 101-point inspection. All services must have been performed at authorized Ferrari dealers to qualify. Important: oil leaks are explicitly excluded, meaning magnetorheological shock absorber failures are not covered.

Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI Type 4S 2015-2024
The 5.2 FSI V10 is widely regarded as one of the most reliable supercar engines. Magnetic ride leaks on both cars. Running costs are notably lower.
Ferrari LaFerrari
Ferrari LaFerrari 2013-2018
Hybrid hypercar with far higher risk costs due to the HY-KERS battery system. The F140 V12 is robust, but hybrid complexity pushes annual risk well above the Pista.
Ferrari 458 Italia
Ferrari 458 Italia 2010-2015
Same DCT and shock absorber issues but no turbo system. Early 2010-2011 cars have worse gearbox issues. Running costs are slightly lower.
Ferrari 360 Modena 3.6 V8
Ferrari 360 Modena 3.6 V8 1999-2005
Older and simpler, but the F1 gearbox hydraulics and clutch are expensive recurring costs. Engine is robust. Overall risk is comparable despite lower technology.
