The fastest version of Tesla's refreshed Model 3, known as 'Highland.' Built on an updated platform with revised suspension geometry, new interior with ambient lighting, and stalk-less controls. The Performance variant adds adaptive dampers, 20-inch staggered wheels, carbon fibre spoiler, and Track Mode. European cars are Shanghai-built with LGES battery cells (79 kWh). Build quality has improved over pre-Highland cars but is not yet at German-brand levels.· more· less

Minimal scheduled maintenance Strong battery and drivetrain warranty
Expensive staggered 20" tires Inconsistent build quality at delivery
Buy if: You want a fast, efficient EV with low routine costs and can budget for premium tire replacements on the 20-inch staggered setup.
Avoid if: You expect flawless panel gaps and rattle-free ownership from day one, or mostly drive short urban trips in cold climates (brake corrosion and heat pump stress).

Common Problems
Very new model with limited long-term data, but fundamentally sound
The Highland Performance is too new for definitive reliability conclusions, with most cars under 2 years old and still within warranty. The drivetrain (motor, battery, inverter) is covered for 8 years / 192,000 km and has proven reliable across earlier Model 3 generations. The main ownership costs are the expensive staggered 20-inch tire replacements and the risk of heat pump issues in cold climates. Interior build quality remains the weakest aspect compared to German competitors. German TUV data on earlier Model 3s shows elevated brake and suspension failure rates, driven by regenerative braking disuse and the car's weight.

Warranty Status
Basic vehicle warranty (4 years / 80,000 km) May still apply on 2024+ cars depending on delivery date
Battery and drive unit (8 years / 192,000 km) Active on all Highland Performance models, includes 70% capacity retention
Body corrosion (12 years / unlimited km) Covers perforation from corrosion
Used vehicle warranty (1 year / 20,000 km) Available on Tesla Certified used inventory
The 2024 Highland Performance is recent enough that most examples are still within the 4-year basic vehicle warranty. The 8-year / 192,000 km battery and drive unit warranty is generous and covers the most expensive components. Tesla's used vehicle warranty adds 1 year / 20,000 km beyond the basic warranty expiry when purchased through Tesla's certified inventory.
