The original budget supermini that made affordable new-car motoring a reality in Western Europe. Built on the Renault Logan platform, the Mk1 Sandero with the 1.4 MPI K7J engine offers about the simplest motoring experience available. The K7J is a proven Renault design dating back to the 1990s, used across the Logan, Clio, and Kangoo. It has no turbo, no direct injection, and no timing chain to worry about. Parts are extremely cheap and widely available through Renault networks.· more· less

Common Problems
Simple and durable, but age and corrosion are the main concerns
The K7J engine is one of the most reliable units Renault ever produced, with a proven lifespan exceeding 400,000 km on original internals. The Sandero Mk1 itself is now 14-18 years old, so the main ownership risks are age-related: exhaust rot, body corrosion, and worn rubber components. Mechanical failures are rare if servicing is kept up. Budget for an exhaust replacement and some rust treatment, and this car will cost very little to keep running.
