The K14C engine uses a timing chain that does not have a scheduled replacement interval. However, some owners have reported chain stretch between 100,000 and 150,000 km, accompanied by a brief rattle on cold starts as the tensioner bleeds oil pressure overnight. The tensioner design has been improved on post-2018 production, but earlier cars can be affected. If the rattle lasts more than a few seconds on cold start, the chain, guides, tensioner, and sprockets should all be replaced. Parts cost approximately €200-400, with labour adding another €600-1,000 due to the tight engine bay. Ignoring a stretched chain risks a timing skip, which can cause valve and piston contact on this interference engine. Regular oil changes with the correct viscosity help slow chain wear.

The K14C's direct injection system can cause fuel to mix with the engine oil, particularly on cars driven predominantly on short trips where the engine does not reach full operating temperature. Symptoms include a strong fuel smell from the dipstick and oil level reading above the maximum mark. If caught early, an oil change resolves the issue for around €100-150. Prolonged driving with diluted oil accelerates bearing and piston ring wear, potentially leading to expensive engine damage (€2,000+). Pre-2020 models without the mild hybrid system are more susceptible, as they do not benefit from the stop-start recalibration. The factory-fitted Garmin infotainment unit on 2015-2019 Vitaras is a known weak point. Common symptoms include a white screen with calibration dots, touchscreen registering taps in the wrong positions, spontaneous rebooting during driving, and complete unresponsiveness. Software updates via SD card can sometimes resolve the issue, but hardware failure of the touchscreen digitizer is not uncommon. Dealer replacement costs €400-800. This is a known weakness across modern Suzuki models.
