2010-2017 · 1.2 K12B (94 hp) 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol

One of the most reliable superminis of its era. The naturally aspirated K12B engine is simple and durable, with a timing chain instead of a belt and no turbocharger to worry about. Suzuki ranked first in the What Car? reliability survey, and this generation scored 98.1% with only 6% of owners reporting any fault at all. Parts are cheap and widely available across Europe.

Sill corrosion traps moisture Brake calipers seize in winter
Buy if: You want a cheap, reliable daily driver with minimal running costs and can verify sill corrosion has been addressed.

Common Problems
One of the most reliable superminis available
The Swift Mk4 with the K12B engine is exceptionally reliable by any standard. Only 6% of surveyed owners reported any fault, and those were mostly minor. The engine has no timing belt (uses a chain), no turbo, and no complex electronics to go wrong. The main areas to watch are sill corrosion in salt-heavy climates, brake caliper maintenance, and occasional suspension wear. With regular servicing at the specified 15,000 km or 12-month intervals, this car routinely exceeds 200,000 km without major powertrain issues.

Seat heater adhesive failure / fire risk (April 2013 - September 2015 production) Verify completed
Contact a Suzuki dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. The brake line recall is particularly important as it can cause brake fluid leakage and reduced braking performance.
