The Challenger SRT 392 is the sweet spot of the third-generation Challenger range: a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter HEMI V8 producing 470 hp (2011-2014 SRT8) or 485 hp (2015-2023 SRT 392/Scat Pack), without the supercharger complexity of the Hellcat. Built from 2011 to 2023 on the venerable LX/LC platform, it is one of the last old-school American muscle cars. In Europe these are grey-market imports or delivered through the AEC Europe distributor, which means specialist workshops and US-sourced parts are essential for long-term ownership.· more· less

Common Problems
Robust engine, but MDS system and import status add complexity
The 6.4 HEMI V8 is fundamentally a strong engine, and many examples exceed 200,000 km without major powertrain failure. The primary reliability concern is the MDS lifter system on automatics, which has prompted a class action lawsuit. Manual transmission cars largely avoid this issue. Exhaust manifold bolts and differential whine are common across all HEMI Challengers. In Europe, the main ownership challenge is parts sourcing and finding a workshop with Mopar experience. Budget for higher service costs than equivalent European performance cars.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Takata airbag inflator (2008-2015 models) Critical - verify completed
Alternator defect — NHTSA 14V-634 (2011-2014 models) Verify completed
Transmission control module software update (various years) Verify completed
Parking brake improper adjustment (2023 models) Verify if applicable
TPMS sensor battery premature failure (2022 models) Verify if applicable
Windshield bonding defect (2020-2021 models) Verify if applicable
The Challenger had numerous recalls across its 2008-2023 production run. Because many European examples are US imports, recall work may not have been completed. Contact Stellantis with the VIN to verify all applicable recalls. The Takata airbag recall is a safety-critical item on 2008-2015 cars.
Warranty Status
AEC Europe warranty (2 years) Expired on most used cars
US factory warranty (3yr/60,000 km basic, 5yr/100,000 km powertrain) Only applies to US-market cars, not transferable to Europe
Extended warranty options Available through AEC Europe / CarGarantie or independent providers
European-delivered Challengers through AEC Europe received a 2-year warranty (administered by CarGarantie). Private US imports typically have no warranty coverage in Europe. Extended warranties through specialist US-car insurers are available but may exclude pre-existing conditions and have limited workshop networks.
