This affects the entire VW Group 4.0T family and was the subject of TSB 2052085/1 for Bentley 4.0T models from 2012-2018. If caught early, preventive screen cleaning or relocation costs around €3,000 including labor due to the screens' inaccessible location (requires removing throttle bodies, intercooler, bi-pipes, and oil separator). The 4.0 TFSI engine's PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve sits directly under the turbochargers, where heat accelerates wear on the rubber diaphragm inside the oil separator. When it fails, the crankcase pressure becomes unregulated. Too much vacuum pulls seals inward, causing oil consumption; too much pressure pushes oil past gaskets. Symptoms include a whistling noise from the engine bay, rough idle, check engine light with lean mixture codes, and visible oil seepage from various engine seals.
