Alpine's first electric car and the performance flagship of the Renault 5 family. Built on Renault's AmpR Small platform at the Douai factory, the 220 hp variant (GT Performance, GTS) gets the more powerful electrically-excited synchronous motor, Brembo four-piston front brakes from the A110, 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport rubber, and torque vectoring via brake-based intervention. The 52 kWh NMC battery delivers roughly 300-370 km WLTP range. As a very new model launched in late 2024, long-term data is limited, but early ownership reports and two recalls within the first 18 months give a useful picture.· more· less

Common Problems
Typical new-platform teething issues, no structural concerns
The Alpine A290 shares its AmpR Small platform, battery, and motor family with the Renault 5, which has been produced in large volumes (100,000+ units by end 2025). The known issues are overwhelmingly software-related and have been addressed or are being addressed through dealer updates. The battery cell recall affects only a narrow six-week production window. No long-term drivetrain reliability data exists yet, but the electrically-excited synchronous motor is a simpler design than permanent magnet alternatives. The 220 hp variant uses a motor derived from the Renault Megane E-Tech rather than the base Renault 5, adding some proven lineage. Brembo brakes and 19-inch tires increase consumable costs compared to the 180 hp model, but the risk profile is very similar.
