Polestar's first SUV, built on the new Volvo SPA2 platform shared with the EX90. The dual-motor version produces 360 kW (489 hp), comes with standard air suspension, and carries a 111 kWh battery offering roughly 560 km WLTP range. Production started in Chengdu, China, with additional US assembly in South Carolina. European deliveries began in late 2024. As a first-generation vehicle on an all-new platform, early builds carry the typical weight of software teething problems and assembly quality recalls.· more· less

Buy if: You want a premium Scandinavian electric SUV with strong range and can accept that software refinement is still catching up to the hardware.

Common Problems
Mechanically promising, but software immaturity is a real ownership burden
The Polestar 3's dual-motor drivetrain and 111 kWh battery appear mechanically sound, with no widespread motor or battery failures reported in the first 18 months of production. The SPA2 platform's all-new software architecture, however, is clearly not fully mature. Infotainment crashes, digital key inconsistencies, and driver assistance glitches affect a significant proportion of early owners. Multiple assembly quality recalls further highlight first-year production challenges. Later 2025 and 2026 builds benefit from updated software and hardware revisions, including a new dual-Orin central computer being retrofitted to existing 2025 models for free. For used buyers, targeting a later build date and verifying all recalls are completed significantly reduces risk.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Electrical connector corrosion causing power steering loss (2024-2025, ~9,966 vehicles worldwide, recall RP1063) Critical - verify completed
Rear seat backrest striker brackets incorrectly torqued (2025 US-built, ~213 vehicles) Verify completed
Rearview camera not displaying by default in reverse (2025, ~3,600 vehicles, OTA fix) Verify completed
Panoramic glass sunroof insufficient bonding (Sep-Dec 2024 Charleston-built, ~19 vehicles) Verify completed
Hood wing front bumper missing mounting bolts (Nov 2024-May 2025, ~68 vehicles) Verify completed
The Polestar 3 has accumulated at least 5 recalls in its first 18 months of production. Contact Polestar with the VIN to verify all recalls have been completed. Pay particular attention to the electrical connector recall (RP1063) affecting nearly 10,000 vehicles worldwide, as loss of power steering in this heavy SUV is a serious safety concern.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Most used Polestar 3s still within warranty (deliveries began late 2024)
HV battery warranty 8 years / 160,000 km, minimum 70% capacity guarantee
Corrosion perforation warranty 12 years from delivery
Complimentary scheduled maintenance 3 years / 50,000 km included from new
Extended warranty Available through Polestar, approximately €500/year, up to 160,000 km
Most Polestar 3 models on the used market are still within their 2-year factory warranty. Given the number of software-related issues and early recalls, verifying remaining warranty coverage is strongly recommended before purchase. The 8-year battery warranty transfers with ownership. The complimentary 3-year scheduled maintenance may have already been used on some early cars.
