Chery's European-market electric crossover, competing directly with the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric. The E5 uses a BYD-supplied Blade LFP battery (61 kWh) and a 155 kW front-mounted motor, delivering around 330 km real-world range. Backed by a 7-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, it undercuts European rivals on price. As a brand-new entrant in Europe (first deliveries March 2024), long-term reliability data is still limited, but the underlying Chery platform has been sold in larger numbers in China and Australia since 2022.· more· less

Common Problems
Too new for certainty, but no major powertrain concerns yet
The Omoda E5 has been on European roads for less than two years, so long-term reliability data is limited. The core EV drivetrain (BYD-supplied LFP battery, Chery electric motor) appears mechanically sound, with no reported motor, inverter, or battery failures. The main concerns are software maturity (infotainment and ADAS), build quality inconsistencies (driveshaft recall), and the still-developing European dealer and parts network. The 7-year vehicle warranty and 8-year battery warranty provide substantial coverage for early buyers. Most reported issues are software-related and improving with firmware updates.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Driveshaft nut loosening (R/2026/013, Feb 2026) - 2,327 vehicles affected, improper torque during assembly causing vibration Critical - verify completed
Contact Omoda customer service or your local Omoda/Jaecoo dealer with the VIN to verify the driveshaft recall has been completed. As a new brand, the recall infrastructure is still being established, so persistence may be required.
Warranty Status
Vehicle warranty (7 years / 150,000 km) Most used E5s still within warranty (first deliveries March 2024)
Battery warranty (8 years / 160,000 km) Covers capacity retention above 70%. All E5s currently within coverage
Rust perforation warranty (12 years) Covers body sheet metal perforation from manufacturing defects
Spare parts warranty 2 years on all replacement parts
The Omoda E5 is still very new (first European deliveries March 2024), so nearly all used examples will be within the 7-year vehicle warranty. The warranty requires servicing at Omoda-authorized dealers at prescribed intervals. Verify warranty status and remaining coverage with Omoda using the VIN before purchase.
