Spacious seven-seat SUV with available AWD and a proven diesel engine, popular with families needing space and towing capability. The 4N14 diesel is Mitsubishi's own design, replacing the earlier PSA unit, and many examples exceed 200,000 km without major powertrain issues when maintained properly. The Outlander GF was offered in Europe from 2012 until diesel variants were phased out around 2020.· more· less

Common Problems
Solid diesel engine with one notable design flaw
The 4N14 diesel engine is fundamentally robust and many Outlanders reach well over 200,000 km. However, the balance shaft coupling design is a widespread and well-documented weak point that affects cars built between late 2012 and early 2018. Budget for this repair or verify it has been addressed. Beyond this, the Outlander is a straightforward and affordable SUV to maintain, provided it gets regular highway driving to keep the DPF healthy. Cars with the 6-speed manual gearbox are the most reliable configuration.
