The lightweight special of the first-generation Gallardo, limited to 618 units worldwide. Lamborghini stripped 100 kg through carbon fiber bodywork, polycarbonate engine cover, magnesium gearbox casings, and forged magnesium wheels. The 5.0L V10 received a modest power increase to 530 hp and came standard with the E-Gear automated manual transmission, though roughly ten examples left the factory with a six-speed manual.· more· less

Buy if: You want a lightweight, limited-production Gallardo and understand E-Gear maintenance, or you can find one of the extremely rare manual examples.
Avoid if: You are uncomfortable with the E-Gear system's ongoing clutch and hydraulic costs, or you plan to drive only short urban trips.

Common Problems
E-Gear system is the main financial risk; engine is robust when oil is monitored
The Gallardo Superleggera's V10 engine has proven durable when oil levels are checked religiously, and many examples have reached high mileages without major mechanical failure. The E-Gear transmission, however, is the car's Achilles heel: clutch replacement is a predictable ongoing cost, and hydraulic system failures can be expensive if not caught early. Heat damage to the rear bodywork is near-universal on pre-LP cars. Budget for E-Gear maintenance as a certainty rather than a possibility, and have the hydraulic system thoroughly inspected before purchase.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist
General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Power steering hydraulic line leak (2004-2006 Gallardo, fire risk) Verify if applicable
Brake rotor attaching screw corrosion failure (2007-2009 Gallardo) Verify completed
Engine software reflash procedure fault (2011-2014 Gallardo) Not applicable
Contact Lamborghini with the VIN to verify all recalls and service campaigns have been completed. The brake rotor screw recall directly applies to 2007-2008 Superleggera models and is safety-critical, especially in regions where road salt is used.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / unlimited km) Expired on all Superleggera models
Extended warranty Available through select Lamborghini dealers
Powertrain coverage Third-party warranties available but expensive for exotic V10
All Gallardo Superleggera models are well outside their original 3-year factory warranty. Extended warranties from Lamborghini or third-party providers are available but come at a premium and typically exclude wear items like the E-Gear clutch. Carefully review exclusions before purchasing extended coverage.

Ferrari 458 Italia
Ferrari 458 Italia 2010-2015
Newer and more reliable overall. The F136 V8 uses timing chains and is very robust. DCT gearbox labor is even more expensive than E-Gear work.
Porsche 911 GT3 (997)
Porsche 911 GT3 (997) 2006-2012
Mezger flat-six is exceptionally durable with no IMS risk. Lower running costs overall. Coolant pipe bonding failure is the main concern.
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 2008-2013
Upgraded 5.2L V10 with improved oiling and stronger E-Gear clutch. Generally more reliable than the 5.0L Superleggera.
Nissan GT-R R35 3.8 V6
Nissan GT-R R35 3.8 V6 2007-2022
Substantially cheaper to maintain with a very robust VR38DETT engine. GR6 transmission can be expensive, but overall running costs are far lower.
