The X150 XK revived Jaguar's grand touring lineage with a lightweight bonded-aluminium body and a refined 4.2-litre V8, available naturally aspirated as the AJ34 at 300 bhp or supercharged as the AJ34S at 420 bhp in XKR form. Comfortable motorway cruising, striking proportions, and substantial depreciation make it an accessible V8 grand tourer in both coupe and convertible forms.· more· less

Common Problems
Robust V8, but ageing ancillaries and electronics demand attention
The 4.2 V8, AJ34 in the naturally aspirated XK and AJ34S in the supercharged XKR, is one of Jaguar's more dependable engines and high-mileage examples beyond 200,000 km exist. The ZF 6HP26 gearbox also performs well when its fluid is changed periodically, despite Jaguar marketing it as fill-for-life. The main ownership cost drivers are the car's complex electronic systems, CATS dampers, HVAC design weakness, and the aluminium body's high repair cost when damaged. A well-maintained XK with full specialist service history is a rewarding grand tourer; one with gaps in its records can become expensive quickly.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Driver airbag may not deploy unless the passenger seat is occupied (EU Safety Gate 0835/08, UK reference R/2008/078). Right-hand-drive MY2007-2009 XK 4.2 and XKR 4.2 coupes and convertibles within VIN range SAJAC43R379B05073-SAJAC43P895B28812 only. Verify if applicable (right-hand-drive VIN range)
Contact Jaguar Land Rover with the VIN to confirm which campaigns apply to a specific car. The airbag campaign above covers only right-hand-drive cars inside its stated VIN range, so left-hand-drive continental examples normally fall outside it, and a VIN check is the only reliable confirmation either way.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (3 years / unlimited km) Expired on all 4.2 X150 models
Extended warranty availability Very limited at this age, check with Jaguar dealers
All X150 4.2 models are at least 17 years old and well beyond their original 3-year factory warranty. Extended warranty coverage at this age is extremely limited. Budget for repairs as an uninsured ownership cost.
