The current-generation Ranger is Ford's mid-size pickup for Europe, competing head-to-head with the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi L200. The P703 platform also underpins the Volkswagen Amarok, reflecting its modern chassis and refined on-road manners compared to the outgoing T6. Available with single-turbo (170 PS) and bi-turbo (205 PS) versions of the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel. The 170 PS single-turbo is offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic and selectable four-wheel drive, while the 205 PS bi-turbo comes with the 10-speed automatic and the electronically controlled e-4WD system.· more· less

Buy if: You need a capable pickup for mixed highway and work use and can commit to strict oil change intervals with the correct Ford specification.
Avoid if: Your driving is predominantly short urban trips or low-speed site work, which accelerates DPF, AdBlue, and wet belt problems.

Common Problems
Capable workhorse, but emissions hardware demands disciplined use
The P703 Ranger's 2.0 EcoBlue is a competent diesel for a mid-size pickup, but the wet timing belt, SCR/AdBlue system, and DPF interactions require attention to driving patterns and maintenance schedules. Short-trip and urban-only use significantly accelerates wear on emissions hardware and compounds the belt degradation risk through oil dilution. Regular highway driving, strict oil change intervals with the correct Ford specification, and proactive wet belt monitoring are essential. The 10-speed automatic benefits from available software updates. Overall reliability data is still limited given the P703's recent introduction, but the 2.0 EcoBlue's track record across the Ford Transit and Custom range provides a longer reference point for these issues.

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Driver's seat belt routing through rubber sleeve instead of metal anchor loop (production May 2022 - April 2024, RAPEX 24S68) Critical - verify completed
Camshaft sprocket can fracture and cause a loss of drive (2.0 EcoBlue built 26 January 2023 - 11 March 2025, Ford 25S39 / KBA 15405R) Critical - verify completed
Front propeller shaft: incorrect shaft fitted (23S42) and loose or missing propeller-shaft flange bolts allowing the driveshaft to detach (23S43, production 12 December 2022 - 5 June 2023) Verify completed
Power child lock may disengage unexpectedly on Ranger Platinum (UK recall R/2024/048, Ford 23S67) Verify completed
Loss of power brake assistance and increased pedal travel (2024-2025 production) Verify completed
Rear axle ring gear incorrect bolts (2023 production) Verify completed
Front wiper motor linkage defect (2023 production) Verify completed
The P703 Ranger has accumulated several recalls in its first years of production. Contact a Ford dealer with the VIN to verify all recalls and customer satisfaction programs have been completed. The seat belt routing recall (24S68) is particularly critical as it affects occupant restraint in a collision, and the German campaign 25S39 (KBA reference 15405R) matters just as much on 2.0 EcoBlue vehicles built between 26 January 2023 and 11 March 2025, because a fractured camshaft sprocket can cause a sudden loss of drive.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years, Germany) Expired on 2022-2023 models. 2024-2025 models may still be covered.
Extended warranty Available through Ford dealers, typically up to 5 years total
The 2-year term is the German factory warranty, and most used P703 Rangers from 2022-2023 are outside it. Terms differ by market: Ford UK classes the Ranger as a car for warranty purposes and gives a 3-year / 60,000-mile base warranty. Verify remaining coverage with a Ford dealer using the VIN, particularly for 2024 and newer models. The wet timing belt replacement falls outside the factory warranty either way, so budget for it as a fixed ownership cost and have the VIN-specific interval confirmed from the Ford service schedule.
