Fiat's C-segment hatchback competed against the Golf and Focus from 2007 to 2014. The 2.0 MultiJet was the range-topping diesel and was offered from 2008 to 2012, pairing 165 hp and 360 Nm with a 6-speed manual gearbox. It shares its engine with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and offered strong performance for a compact diesel, though the Bravo was always more affordable than its rivals.· more· less

Common Problems
Reliable engine in a car that needs attentive ownership
The 2.0 MultiJet engine is fundamentally robust and many examples exceed 200,000 km without major mechanical failure. The main concerns are the standard diesel emissions components (DPF, EGR, turbo) that require regular motorway driving to stay healthy, and the Bravo's body-specific issues with water ingress and tailgate corrosion. Maintenance costs are reasonable thanks to widely available parts, but finding Fiat specialists may be harder in some regions as the Bravo has been out of production since 2014 and this engine left the range in 2012.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Airbag inflator second-stage firing charge manufacturing nonconformity (Fiat recall 6077, 14 November 2016). The notice covers all Bravo versions but lists only nine Type 198 chassis, in Italy, Austria, France, Poland and Turkey. Verify with VIN
Engine ECU update for difficult cold starting and revving (Fiat service campaign 5361, 4 February 2009). Limited to 1,256 Bravo 2.0 MultiJet 165 cars, chassis 4107954-4203682. Verify completed if applicable
Incorrect engine-code marking, with 198A8000 the correct code for the 165 CV version (Fiat campaign 5618, chassis 4323889-4344322). The available official notice is Polish-language, so no wider market scope is established. Verify completed if applicable
Contact a Fiat dealer with the VIN to check which of these campaigns apply. Campaigns 5361 and 5618 were limited to the chassis ranges shown, and recall 6077 listed only nine Bravo 198 chassis across Italy, Austria, France, Poland and Turkey, so only a VIN check confirms whether a given 2.0 MultiJet is affected.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (2 years) Expired on all used Bravo 198 models
Rust perforation warranty (8 years) Expired on all models (last 2.0 MultiJet production 2012)
All Fiat Bravo 198 models are now well outside their original 2-year factory warranty and 8-year anti-corrosion warranty. Third-party extended warranty options may be available but are uncommon for vehicles of this age and value.
