Mid-size sedan built by GM Korea and marketed across Europe from 2006 to 2011. The Epica offered a spacious, well-equipped cabin with a composed highway ride at a lower price point than established European D-segment competitors. The 2.0 VCDi diesel variant, available from 2007, uses a Z20S engine derived from a VM Motori design producing 150 PS and 320 Nm of torque.· more· less

Common Problems
Niche diesel with limited support network in Europe
The Epica 2.0 VCDi presents all the standard diesel ownership concerns (DPF, EGR, turbo, DMF), compounded by Chevrolet's withdrawal from mainstream European sales from 2016. General Motors kept selected models and committed to continued warranty, parts and service, but finding specialist knowledge, OEM parts, and experienced mechanics is significantly harder than for mainstream European diesels. Well-maintained examples can reach 200,000+ km, but diligent preventive maintenance is essential. Budget for longer wait times and potentially higher costs when sourcing parts, and always check thoroughly for structural corrosion before purchase.

Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
ABS module, voluntary recall published 2012 for MY2008-2010 Epica/Tosca within VIN range KL1LF69RJ8B090447 to KL1LA69KJAB012342: a sticking valve can increase brake pedal travel and reduce braking Verify by VIN
The 2012 ABS action is the campaign to check on this car. It is not powertrain-specific, so a 2.0 VCDi is only covered if its VIN falls inside the published KL1LF69RJ8B090447 to KL1LA69KJAB012342 range. Chevrolet ended mainstream European sales from 2016, but General Motors committed to continued warranty, parts and service, and European recall assistance is still available, so have the VIN checked through Chevrolet Europe's recall service or your national vehicle safety authority.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty Expired on all Epica models
Dealer network Mainstream European sales ended from 2016, parts and service support retained
Extended warranty Third-party providers only, verify diesel coverage
All Chevrolet Epica models are at least 15 years old and well beyond any original factory warranty. Chevrolet ended mainstream European sales from 2016, and although General Motors committed to continued warranty, parts and service, no manufacturer-backed extended warranty is offered for a car of this age. Some third-party warranty providers may still cover the Epica, but coverage for the niche Z20S diesel should be carefully reviewed for exclusions.
