America's front-engine V8 sports car, sold in Europe from 2014 to 2019 with the naturally aspirated 6.2L LT1 producing 460 hp. The pushrod V8 is mechanically simpler than most European equivalents, with no turbocharger, no timing belt, and no complex DOHC valvetrain to worry about. In Europe the C7 is a niche car, meaning specialist service access and parts sourcing require more planning than with a mainstream European sports car.· more· less

Simple, proven pushrod V8 engine Strong performance per euro spent
Niche in Europe, limited parts access AFM cylinder deactivation adds risk
Buy if: You want a naturally aspirated V8 sports car with a fundamentally simple engine and can source a specialist for service in your area.
Avoid if: You need convenient dealer access for routine service, or you are considering a 2015-2016 automatic where the transmission shudder risk is highest.

Common Problems
Fundamentally simple engine, but European niche status adds complexity
The LT1 pushrod V8 is one of the simpler performance engines available, with no turbocharger, no timing belt, and a robust bottom end that regularly exceeds 150,000 km without major issues when properly maintained. The main areas of concern are the AFM cylinder deactivation system, the 8L90 automatic transmission shudder (largely a 2015-2016 issue resolved by a fluid flush), and the parasitic battery drain that requires a tender for infrequent use. In Europe, the primary ownership challenge is the limited specialist network and the need to source some parts from the US, which can add lead time and cost to repairs that would be routine in North America.
Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist

General checks
Specific for this vehicle
Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins
Airbag SDM software defect preventing deployment (2014-2017 models) Verify completed
Power steering defect, EU Safety Gate campaign N182182760/A12/0909/19 (cars produced 20 June 2016 to 11 May 2017) Verify completed
Parking brake cable improperly seated, GM campaign 14620A, a North American FMVSS/CMVSS 135 non-compliance action for certain 2015 cars (European applicability needs a VIN check) Verify if applicable
Chevrolet withdrew from the European market, so recall verification requires contacting a former Chevrolet dealer or GM-authorized service point. In Germany, some Cadillac dealers can still access GM's recall database with the VIN. The power steering campaign was notified for Europe through the EU Safety Gate system, while campaign 14620A was a North American action, so a European car needs a VIN check before that one is assumed to apply. Verify all outstanding recalls have been completed before purchase.
Warranty Status
Factory warranty (36 months / 100,000 km EU) Expired on all used C7s
Rust perforation warranty (6 years) May apply to late 2019 production cars
Extended warranty availability Very limited since Chevrolet left Europe
All C7 Stingrays are outside their original EU factory warranty of 36 months or 100,000 km, which had no mileage limit during the first 24 months. Extended warranty options are extremely limited since Chevrolet withdrew from the European market. Budget for out-of-pocket repairs. The 6-year rust perforation warranty may still apply to the last production cars.
