Owners commonly report low-speed hesitation when pulling away from rest, shudder during gentle acceleration in urban traffic, and rough downshifts when braking. BMW has released multiple TCU software recalibrations to improve shift quality, and in many cases a dealer software update resolves the worst symptoms. However, if clutch pack wear is involved, repair costs escalate. Clutch pack replacement runs €1,500-2,500 at a BMW dealer, while a software update alone is typically free under warranty or €150-300 outside it. Most issues can be resolved through over-the-air software updates or a dealer software flash, both typically free of charge. A soft reset (holding the volume knob for 30 seconds) often fixes temporary freezes. In rare cases, the head unit or display itself needs physical replacement (€800-1,200 at a dealer). BMW has pushed numerous OTA updates since launch, and from November 2023 U06 production switched to BMW Operating System 9, so cars built from that changeover onwards do not run iDrive 8 at all and are not affected by these symptoms. The integrated braking system recall is particularly important and affects many U06 models built between 2022 and 2024. BMW has committed to replacing the IBS hydraulic unit in affected vehicles free of charge.
